My entry for The Card Concept 136. I was inspired by the colours and layout. But I think that’s pretty obvious. 🙂

On my Clean and Layered card’s background I embossed with a folder then heat embossed the raised areas with @wowembossing Matt Dull powder. It intensifies the colour like clear embossing powder but isn’t shiny. The flowers are by @concordand9th Fine Line and Filled in Florals dies. I cut the outline with solid coloured cardstock and the backs with vellum. Then I layered the flowers with glue and foam adhesive for the large pink one. Not sure if you can see but I did brush some ink on to the center of the flowers to add intensity.

I recently jumped into creating with the Spellbinders October Watercolour Card Kit of the Month. (Whew that’s a long name huh?) In 2 days I made 13 cards and I could have kept going as I have LOTS of supplies left!

I made a video to show you all the cards. I hope this inspires you if you have this kit or you simply enjoy the cards if you don’t.

I added a few extra things like dies, sequins, gems, Nuvo drops, foam adhesive (some comes in the kit but it’s thicker than I usually use), twine, vellum, ribbon and lace.

Oh, and a bit of white cardstock for the extra card bases. I rarely use coloured cardstock for bases anymore. It seems like a waste of money and dark cardstock especially needs a liner or a light coloured gel pen for the message.

Yet I still have so much left over! All but one of the wooden button and epoxy stickers, almost all of the cardstock, TONS of die cuts, about 80% of the sticker sheets, all but one of the journaling spots and tags plus of course the die set and stamp set which never run out!

This kit is definitely the most user-friendly kit I’ve purchased and having so many of the gorgeous die cuts means making cards is fast and fun. I didn’t even use the dies for these cards except for the celebrate die. I did use them for a postcard though.

I can totally see myself making a pocket page with many of the remaining supplies. There are many geared towards home and family.

So here are 6 of the cards plus the postcard. I’ll post photos of the other 7 soon! Leave me a comment: Do you buy card kits? If you do, do you end up using them up? Or do they sit on a shelf like most of mine do? If not, why not? Is this kind of feature something you’d like to continue to see?

I finally broke down and did it. I made a winter card! I tend to avoid winter cards until it’s well into winter but since we got snow, real stay-on-the-ground snow two days ago, I was inspired to make this card.

The polar bears are stamps by Hero Arts stamped on Arches rough paper; I used the same paper for the background. So I have a story about polar bears and what colour they are. Did you know that polar bear fur isn’t white; it isn’t actually a colour at all. It’s clear and hollow. So any colour you see, is reflected light, or dirt. My dentist is an amazing photographer and he’s been to many places to take pictures of animals. He has a coffee table book in his office of each trip. One, of course, is of his trip to photograph polar bears. They look pretty yellow-ish brown in most of his photos. So I tried to copy the colours from his photos.

The sky gave me some problems. I was trying desperately to portray an aurora borealis but it’s harder than I thought. This was my third attempt but I finally converted it to a galaxy background. I cut the hugs dies from Simon Says Stamp from silver mirrored cardstock and vellum. They look black here but if you look at the edges you can see they are silver. The little hearts dies are from SSS too, also cut from silver paper. The sentiment is from the same polar bear stamp set. I’ve tried many products to add snow/stars to watercolour backgrounds. I found this time that slightly diluted Copic opaque white gave me the perfect tiny droplets that stayed white after drying. I’ve used white acrylic paint and white gouache as well as silver and white watercolour paints. This definitely gave me the best results.

Thank you to everyone who transferred their subscription from Eclectic Endeavours. I’m excited to bring you the fall décor I promised last week. Many layers of paint have been applied to pumpkins both glass and foam, all from the dollar store. I will be finishing them early this week and I can’t wait to show you!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! At Crazy 4 Challenges this week the theme was to make an awareness, support or hope card. I had a very amazing friend who passed away from breast cancer that metastasized to her brain. I wish I had been making cards back then because she would have been on of the most appreciative people I’ve ever given a card. I think of her often and miss her.

The background was stamped with a text stamp from Taylored Expressions. I used Pink Peony ink from PTI for the stamping. The ‘hope’ sentiment is by a.muse studio which I stamped in Berry Sorbet on ivory paper and cut out by hand. The ‘doily’ is a die cut using multiple Spellbinders’ dies that are made to work together. I cut the outer die then stacked the inner layers together and embossed them. It really makes for a gorgeous die cut. If you cut all the layers instead of embossing them, you get a bunch of circle frames with lots of beautiful details.

This layout is one I use a lot. It’s extremely versatile especially if you  like to add lots of small details. But you can replace the whole cluster of flowers etc with a single focal image and it still looks great. The die cut is by Lifestyle Crafts (which was bought out by WRMK I think) which I accented with Copic markers to make it look more like a real ribbon. I could have, and have previously used, actual ribbon but since I already had ribbon on the page, I went with the die cut. The flowers all came from Really Reasonable Ribbon, they have quite the selection now!
