Sewing Themed ‘Button Card’ Card

button card sewing themed card

I hope I haven’t posted this before. I’m pretty sure I worked from a sketch for this one but it was quite a while ago.Maybe Mojo Monday? I sewed some green twill into a flower and the flower in the corner was pierced with an Ornare template and handsewn with regular thread. The pattern envelope paper is from a real vintage pattern.

Enjoy, Rebecca

Butterfly Challenge Card

This card is for the Embellish Magazine colour challenge of kraft, sea foam, peach and cream with a quirky, cute style and Unscripted Sketches Challenge #69 with a piggy back challenge  to use anything except the typical punched flower!

I can’t believe I played in both challenges and neither have expired yet! I am always playing challenges and forgetting to enter my link in the challenge. Everything is pretty easy to figure out but I did have an interesting way of doing the clouds.

I wanted the clouds to puff up but still appear to come from behind the cut outs. At the same time, I didn’t want the paper to be puffy around the edges. So I cut the clouds using the die and I cut the shape out of the paper also. Then I stretched the fluffy cloud stuff, natural cotton quilt batting, so it went just under the edges of the paper and I put score tape all around the die cuts to they would stick down well. I got just the look I was going for.

Anatomy of a Pear

I have always LOVED this stamp. Funny, I am not stuck on eating pears IRL but I LOVE artistic pears and have several stamps. This one hovers between a botanical drawing and a science lesson-so cool!

anatomy of a pear earthlove

I coloured this ages ago so I am sorry, I have no idea of the Copics I used but I was delighted to see that they match Earth Love DP perfectly!  And even better, the yellow matches SU! banana CS perfectly! I always have such a hard time matching CS to Cosmo Cricket papers since I mostly keep SU! CS on hand. Wasabi, an old In Colour matches well too. The brown strip above the ribbon is a strip of CS, I think it looks rather striking.

Enjoy, Rebecca

Farm Critter Stack Card

I have had this stamp for several years; isn’t it hilarious? I often use it with friendship sentiments, I mean, you have GOT to be a GOOD friend to be the guy on the bottom! This is also for Skipping Stones Designs Sketch Challenge. I haven’t found the money yet to buy any stamps YET but I hope to soon. They have a great sense of humour so I hope they appreciate this card!

farm critter stack
I coloured this with Copics, no picture but I wrote down the colour numbers. E04, 31, 33, 35, 49 W1, 3, 5 YR4, 16, 21, 23, 38, R37, 59, 81, 83 Background BG10 B12 YG67 G21. I used the airbrush with a hand cut cloud template to do the sky. The grass tufts are hand drawn but I wasn’t stuck on the way the ones in the bottom right looked so I stuck the button over top. The twine is wavy because it is really a three strand jute cord pulled apart into its individual strands because it was too thick otherwise.

This was a really fun sketch. I’m not sure how much time there is to play because it was posted last Tuesday but I know I am going to keep it in my files to use again. OH and I forget to add, yes, I drew in the chicken footprints!

Enjoy, Rebecca

Honey Do Lists

That always cracks me up, Honey Do List! I made these notepads for my craft show.

honey do lists

I’m afraid there isn’t really anything interesting to say about these, they are pretty obvious. One thing I thought was cute, I used a + and a – screw. I know these screw head types have official names but to me they represent the positives and negatives of doing chores. You might hate doing them but you do feel mighty good when they are done!

Enjoy, Rebecca

Earth Love Welcome Home

SCROLL DOWN FOR TWO MORE POSTS!!

Another super simple card, this one I really love! Again, so simple but pretty!

cc earth love welcome home

Don’t the buttons match PERFECTLY? They are from PTI, lemon tart I think, and melon berry? The little bugs are a sticker and the Welcome Home is also. The buttons are threaded with twine from PTI also. The yellow one is threaded so the tails poke out from underneath. You just can’t see them against the natural coloured flower underneath.

Enjoy, Rebecca

Earth Love Thank You

Not much to say about this little card. Just a quick, fun and EASY layout!

cc earth love thank you

I love the shape of this ‘thank you’ panel. It was part of the sheet of images that comes with the kit and I cut out just this portion. Unless it is one of the brand new ones, I don’t think Spellbinders makes one quite this shape yet. I hope they see it and add it to the next release!

Snowman Lovin’ for Whimsical Wednesdays

I super love these sweet Pure Innocence images from MFT. This cute little one was perfect for the weather around here! –5 degrees C or 23 degrees F. Yuck!!

PI snowmanThe colours are actually a bit deeper IRL; the photo is somewhat overexposed. I tried to adjust the exposure but the detail was blown out. (That means the pixels simply weren’t captured so they can’t be brought out by adjusting the photo digitally.) Grrr! Which means it is hard to see the embossing within the scallops of this EK Success punch. And I totally goofed again, notice I forgot to colour her hair! I was rushing but I did have a few seconds to colour her hair, poor thing! One other thing, the Liquid Appliqué wasn’t dry enough to heat it, so it isn’t as puffy as it will end up. In case you can tell, I covered the BG coloured areas on the design with W-1 to deepen the shade because they were too  bright to match the paper. A great technique I learned from Debbie Olson; thanks Debbie!

It seems this week we have a sweet sketch from the littlest Diedrich, Ava! I thought this was a great sketch and I had fun playing with it. In fact, I had TOO many ideas! Yeah Ava!

DDSC22Ava

I hope you will all welcome a new Team member, Sara Henton! I am DYING to see her project this week! But as I tend to get up a bit late, you will all get there first right? Because you are all going to visit all the DareDevils blogs to see their takes on the sketch right? Be sure to visit the Whimsical Wednesdays blog and leave some love for Sara, leave DIRECT links to your creations AND see who won the AWESOME FREE Unity stamps Jessica offered last week! Thanks Jess! Be sure to use DDSC22 when uploading to an online gallery. Please note: Jacquie N, Kris and Darla (or was it Debbie?? umm…) won’t be playing this week.

I am so busy!

Man, there is so much to do to get ready for a craft show! I have been creating all weekend. I went to a warehouse sale on Friday night and got a Copic airbrush system! WOO HOO! I’ve wanted one for AGES! So now you are expecting to see an airbrushed card… sorry, I haven’t even used it yet. Too busy trying to make saleable items. I hate trying to make stuff that isn’t exactly my style when I’m not sure if it will sell but I KNOW that not everyone likes the girlie cards that are my forte. It’s not that I hate making it so much as I have no idea if anyone will like it! I hope someone will like this one.

cc smile

Kinda cute and definitely masculine right? It is so fun digging through PTI buttons to get just the right one. I highly recommend them. I have almost every colour though I wish I had even more.

I tried using Skype for the first time tonight. You really have to try this if you have any friends or family far away. What fun. It was great to ‘meet’ Kathy, my buddy in AUSTRALIA!! It would cost a fortune without Skype. In case you have never heard of it, Skype is a free worldwide video phone service. All you need is a webcam, a computer and the ability to download the Skype program, oh and someone else with the same set up. Great fun!

Back in 5

This saying is too funny! I just had to use this on a card. I love this paper pack-Cosmo Cricket Boyfriend though I don’t really get the name. When I look at these papers I don’t think of a boyfriend. Maybe if I was 15 (when no teenager should be dating IMHO). Like I’d ever get that wish!!

cc boyfriend back in 5
I had fun covering this arrow in some of the paper. I remember using an answer key like this. Remember at the top, ‘Fill in the whole circle. Do not use a checkmark or an X. Use HB pencil.’ In fact, I think I used these in college for formal exams.

So what is your happy place? Mine, when I was in labour, was on the back of my favourite horse, on a trail ride, moseying along with sun light filtering through the trees. Oh, and since it is a happy place, there are no bugs!!! or spider webs across the trail!

Enjoy, Rebecca
