Winter Elegance Coffee Card

I had such fun creating a card for the Winter Coffee Lover’s Bloghop, that I decided to make 2 more cards! I’ve had trouble in the past with link up thingies if I’m trying to add multiple cards so I’m going to create 3 different blog posts. Hope that doesn’t drive anyone crazy!

Coffee-Lovers-Blog-Hop-fw18

For my first card, I used an Echo Park paper pad from a year or two ago, Bundled Up. Aren’t the colours gorgeous?! I just bought an older set of Spellbinders dies that matched some Nestabling I won. Remember Nestabling? If you are new to crafting, you’ve probably never seen it. It’s pearls or rhinestones shaped perfectly to fit the Spellbinders Labels dies. Buying the dies second is kind of backwards I know! I don’t know if they make it anymore. It used to be that Spellbinders was the only game in town for low-profile dies so a lot of companies matched stamps and embellishments to them. Now with so many dies on the market and stamp companies making their own dies, there’s no need for these products or they are redundant.

winter pearl coffee card.jpg

The focal image is from the die cut pack that matches the paper pack. But you could argue that the snowflake embellishment is the focus of the card! I took dies from MFT, Stylized Snowflakes and Layered Snowflakes, no idea which dies are which because I store them all jammed together on a magnet sheet! The blue layer was coloured with Copic markers and the silver one was coloured with a silver paint marker. The brad is also a matching embellishment.

Winter Coffee Lovers Bloghop!

Today I have a card that does double duty! It’s my Coffee Lovers bloghop card AND it’s my Crazy 4 Challenges card. The last challenge of the year as we break for the holidays.

winter 2017 coffee lovers-hop-square-with-dates

Our Crazy 4 Challenges theme was to use a previous 2017 sketch. I was super happy because sketches are my favourite! I chose the one from May which worked perfectly with the coffee cup I decided to use.

c4c coffee last sketch

The paper is by Bo Bunny from a year or two ago. I pulled out an older Simon Says Stamp kit (do you guys use your kits up right away? I never do) but decided to go with a new coffee set rather than the one that came with the kit. The stamps are by Neat & Tangled, the Perfect Blend stamps and dies, which are on sale right now. If you like them get them soon as they are retiring.

The background was already stunning but I decided to add some stenciled Nuvo glitter paste swirls. The green/aqua iridescence is very prominent in this paste. It wasn’t looking quite as amazing at the top as it did at the bottom. So, Copic to the rescue!  I added some purple marker over the glitter paste, using the side of the brush tip, which made the glitter match the paper much better. The stencil is by Echo Park and the die cut under the coffee cup is the Quinn Flourish by Memory box. I’m noticing this really needs some more sparkle (can you ever have too much??) so I will add some sequins and maybe some shimmer spray.

Belated Shabby Tea Room Card

Hi to all my readers! I apologize for posting this so late but I’ve been sick and so has my entire family! But good news, there is still time to work on our challenge!

Rebecca E TSTR #10

I didn’t see a tree in the inspiration photo, I saw a cake! These babies are so cute right? Thank you to Bugaboo Stamps for the image I used. It’s very hard to tell but the rain drops (baby shower, get it??) on the background are texture paste sprinkles with very fine glitter.

I know there isn’t much time for crafting over the holidays but this one is worth it! I hope you will visit The Shabby Tea Room and play our challenge! We love to get comments on the blog so be sure to leave some love!

Whimsical Baby Card

The Friday Mashup for the next two weeks is a combination challenge. You have to choose two old challenges and use one or two elements from each. I chose #4 which is Make a Baby Project and Use Punches. And #7 to make a Feminine Project with Ribbons/Pearls. And just for kicks, I added the sketch from #21.

fri mashup 200 ann baby card

I used the punch to cut the scalloped edge at the top of the dotted panel. I used a pearl pen to ‘colour in’ the doodled lace on the onesie. I think the other elements are pretty obvious. I layered the heart and the word. The ‘baby’ die cut has all pink layers underneath. It looks so cute from the side. Same with the heart. I used a micron pen to doodle.

Winter Pillow Box for Unscripted Sketches

I decided I am going to make an effort to make items other than cards for my Unscripted Sketches design team projects. I was looking through my alterables and the first thing I found was this pillow box.

RebeccaEdnie232

I ordered a few of these as possibilities for my sister’s wedding but they were way, way too big. I find it hard to judge sizes unless something is in front of me. Anyway, I swiped the edges with Versamark then added a mix of white and blue embossing powder and white glitter to the pillow and label. The blue snowflake has heat n stick powder and white glitter on it.

I do hope you will join us at Unscripted Sketches this week. You at least want to visit to see all the awesome projects made by the design team! They are really awesome this week (I think I am going to find myself saying that EVERY week; these girls are talented!) You can make any type of project you like; we welcome things other than cards like scrapbook pages, packaging, notebooks or journals, home dec like configurations, frames, wall art or boxes, sewing projects, mixed media, even ornaments! Or anything else you can think of!

Spa Party 2011

Yep, you read that correctly! 2011! I had a spa party for some of my girlfriends and I forgot to blog it! Crazy! I bought some of the stuff I needed and made others. Here are the things I made.

The invite…

spa party invite

Do you have any idea how long and hard I Had to look to find this You’re Invited stamp? OMW! I thought I was going to go crazy looking for it!

spa party clothespins4

Aren’t these cute? I didn’t have that many people so I tailored the designs to suit each person.

spa party clothespins2

Yep, two sets using these older papers. Nice for almost anyone. For a couple people whose favourite colours I didn’t know.

spa party clothespins3

These two were my favourites.

spa party clothespins5

The outside of the tins were decorated with embossed vellum and a die cut topped by a medallion.spa party pencils

Everyone got a pretty beaded pencil too. Also in the bags were a mini lip gloss, a mani kit, a bath scrubbie, a hair band and a bracelet beading kit. I think there were a couple other things too but it was such a long time ago! I wish I had a picture of how I decorated the bags too!

We made the bracelet, did our nails and some of us put on a clay face mask while we watched movies. We ate all manner of goodies as I set up a candy bar, made an enchilada dinner and had cupcakes not only for dessert but also all afternoon. If you are really on the ball you will have figured out that I did all of this while 6 months pregnant!

It would take ages to write a recipe for this so if you have any questions, fee free to email me or leave a comment with your email.

Snowman Card with Gift Card Pocket

As soon as I saw this sketch, I thought of adding a gift card pocket to the front of the card. And I had paper that was perfect!

deconstr79 snow gift card

The snowflake is made from 5 or 6 layers of cardstock glued together. It makes for quite a nice sturdy embellishment! In the center is glued a perfectly matched rhinestone! I know red is an odd choice for a background for a snowy scene but it popped much better than any of the aquas or blues in the paper. Brown was out and so was pure white so red it was!

deconstr79 snow gift card2

Here you can see the inside of the pocket a bit. It is a simple folded cardstock piece with a small flap that folds up from the bottom to secure the card and it adhered on  one side only. Let me know if you’d like the pattern. I trimmed the pocket a bit so the cover closes well and rounded the inside left corner. It is stamped with snowy flourishes. The metal snowflake accents? They are bead caps I wasn’t using because they weren’t working with my jewellery style. Too pointy and big. But flattened out, they make perfect snowflake accents!

deconstr79 snow gift card3

I added a few fun textural touches to this little scene. Nuts, I just noticed that the silver cord is over the scarf and pompom on the hat. Oops! It just needs to be slipped back underneath! The snowman is sporting Liquid Applique on his hat and the little girl has Pearl Pen added to her hat. The hats, scarves and coat are paper pieced. The buttons are dotted with Enamel Accents to make them raised and shiny. The snowman nose and the hill behind the scene, which I hand drew, are accented with Crackle Effects to make them look like they are covered in cracked ice. Lastly, the scene and the paper piecing are coloured and shaded with Copics. Oh, and the colour of the snowman hat is deepened with Distress ink. I had so much fun coming up with ways to enhance this cute little scene!

deconsketch79-332x286

Click the sketch to visit the blog post. Since this layout comes up over and over, I’m making a note that will help me and maybe you too. If your card is 4.25 x 5.5” and you want 1/8” borders and spaces between the panels, each one needs to measure 4” x just under 1 1/4” wide.

I’m also entering this in the Simon Says Stamp Challenge  ‘Anything Goes’ and the Cute Card Thursday challenge 245 to use snowflakes.

Teacher Thank You for MFT Sketch Challenge

My 5 year old’s teacher is amazing. And she loves my son despite his erratic personality. I seriously would hire her to tutor him for the rest of his life if I had the money! Her favourite colour is ‘rainbow’ so I thought I’d go for an autumnal version of rainbow.

mft teacher thank you

So many bright, fun colours in this card. I used my PTI ice cream die, the cone part, to cut the banners. But they were too long for the card so I carefully measured an exact amount off of the top of each and trimmed it off. As the cut pieces lay on the table, I realized they were perfect for toppers for the banners! Cool right? I hope she likes it!

This card is based on the My Favorite Things Wednesday Stamp Club #96. Click on the sketch to visit the blog post.

Scrapbook Steals August Blog Hop–Mr. Huey’s Mists

I am thrilled to be participating in my first (and hopefully not last) blog hop for Scrapbook Steals! If you aren’t familiar with Scrapbook Steals, it is my Number 1 FAVOURITE place to buy scrapbook supplies at a HUGE discount! And they often have products I’ve not even heard of or used before. Plus their sister sites for Kids, Babies and She for women are just as AWESOME! Their blog is amazing too so if you haven’t been there, be sure to start the blog hop there! I have a card and a scrapbook page for you today!

I received Taxi, a bright yellow Studio Calico Mr. Huey’s Mist to work with. Now if you know my blog, you know I am not so into bright yellow so the challenge was on. I used it to mist a sunset scene that this bright yellow was practically made for!

mr hueys sunset sympthy

I started by masking off the bottom portion of the card. Then I mixed the mist with a bit of water to dilute it in a spray bottle and misted the top portion. Then I masked off the sun area as well, added some pumpkin reinker and misted again. Then I misted a third and fourth time adding a few drops of rust red reinker each time until I was happy with the look.

Absolutely lovely coverage and it mixed very well with the reinker. I reversed the masks covering my sky and added a second torn mask to make the shoreline. I sponged in aqua ink for the ocean. Then I tore another mask similar to but not the same as the first. I applied this mask over the ocean leaving a small section to look like the froth of the waves breaking against the shore. Then I used several brown inks to sponge in the sand.

For the palm tree, I stamped it on very dark grey card stock and cut it out. Then I added ink direct to paper from the ink pad so it became a solid black silhouette. I added a sympathy sentiment and I was done! I think a sympathy sentiment was very appropriate as the sunset can symbolize the end of a life. Sad but sympathy cards are very needed and appreciated.

I have several other brands of mists and this is by far the easiest to mix. Thank heavens. Some of the other ones need several minutes of shaking before they are ready to use. And with Mr. Huey’s the colour you see is the colour you get. The others separate and become a gross colour so  you have to shake it in order to see the real colour if you forget what it looks like. Not very convenient if you ask me!

For my next project, I used a mask to create an interesting scrapbook page background. As I usually only create cards, I only bought a 6×6 mask. So I added it to opposing corners to add interest to the ‘white’ space I planned to leave on my layout. I added some water and white reinker to soften the colour somewhat. I also added some touches of a pink mist. I love how many ways you can use these mists!

mr hueys swim day

I was inspired by a layout by Maggie Holmes to use a banner across the page but I don’t have a banner die. Helloooo ingenuity! I looked at my dies to try and decide if I could cut down a square or a rectangle or… when my eyes settled on an ice cream die. Yeah! The cone makes a PERFECT banner! That was the most fun especially since I used up lots of scraps!

mr hueys swim day date closeup

I added the date ‘wheel’ to the top right but felt I needed to add some more round elements to the page. So I added the medallion stamped once on the right side of the larger photo and again in white on acetate under it. Made a nice triangle I thought. I try to keep design principles in mind more so when I scrapbook because it doesn’t come as naturally to me as card making. But I keep at it because I love the results!

mr hueys swim day title closeup

Adding things in odd numbers and in triangles tend to keep your layout more balanced. So I have three photos, pointy shapes in three places (stars in each corner and the banner), orange in three places: one photo, the title/banner and the date wheel; three circle elements and words in three places: the title, date wheel and journaling.
