Pet Sympathy Card

A sweet lady has been coming to support me and help handle my autistic son. It’s her job to help parents of children with mental illness but she’s a parent too. She has an autistic daughter herself so when I found out her daughter’s cat died, I had to make a sympathy card for her.

CASE study 129 cat symp

I took the photos during the day so the colours are a bit off; the orange is darker and the DP is brighter so they match better, sigh… oh well. Daylight mixed with my photo lights confuse my camera’s sensor. I made this as she was arriving and she had to take it with her so there was no time to rephotograph it later.

I used the CASE study 129 but since my kids dumped water on my computer, thankfully it is fine, I missed the chance to enter. Grrrrr…… I might have added some more embellishments to match the original but when I asked her mom if she would notice them she said probably not so I went with just the one cat. The style of this cat suits a teenager so I thought it was perfect.

This is the card I was CASEing. I hope you like my take on it. I really liked the twine bits from each embellie. Thought is was cute and very clever. I was working from memory so I didn’t notice the one rounded corner; wish I had done that. oh well.

Enjoy, Rebecca

New Pets Card

My cousin got a new puppy and a new kitten so I wanted to say Congrats! Now this is where I KNOW my card making is an advantage. Try and find a card in Hallmark that’s a congrats on your new cat AND dog in the same card! Hah! Take that Hallmark!

new pets card

I used Max and Whiskers paper, specifically half puppy and half kitty papers. The heart tags are those Making Memories frames to which you add your own paper in the centers. Worked out well except I wanted warmer coloured+-frames than the silver they come in. So I used a Copic marker on them tapping the side along the frame. So now it looks antiqued/distressed.

Pet Sympathy Cards

My best girlfriend’s neighbour lost her dog this last week. I knew she would buy a sympathy card so I offered to make one for her to give.

pet sympathy duo

First, I decided to try out my new hex cover plate die from PTI. I had to die cut it three times before I finally got the right combo of number of passes through the machine and shim. I think my plates are old and that is part of it but it is a tricky thing to cut even with a new plate. Don’t start using it the first time on your last sheet of paper! Test it out first!

pet sympathy hex card

I used Nichole Heady’s PDF cutting diagram for 4 patterned papers but I substituted paw stamps for one of the papers. I love how it looks. I decided it was just too much work to give to someone I don’t even know so I’m going to save it. Then I made another one for my girlfriend to give away using this week’s Unscripted Sketch.

I made the button with the same paw stamp I used on the other card. It’s clear with glossy accents as adhesive. I was going to use a grey button from the pack that matches the paper but another button from another Basic Grey pack in this gorgeous teal colour really popped.

I hope these cards bring some comfort. It’s so awful to lose a special pet.

Puppy Love Wire Photo Holder

This was one of two doggie-themed gifts I mafe for my mom. She recently lost her dog who was 14.5 years old and she was devastated. And since she is hard to buy for, I pretty much have to make something to be sure she doesn’t already have it!

puppy love photo frame

This originally was a nasty yellow colour and I can’t imagine why anyone, even a dollar store would use it. I sanded it so the paint would grab and added two coats of acrylic paint. Then I covered it in Rock Candy Crackle Paint. The doggie bone embellishment is a die cut from MFT which I covered in Glossy Accents.

The scalloped circle is covered in Max and Whiskers paper and sealed. Then I added the banner; just the letters are covered in Glossy Accents.

Doggy Sympathy

My mom lost her sweet Golden Retriever Pinkerton last week. I loved that dog so much and of course, she was devastated. So, sadly, I made her a sympathy card.

Inside is one of the sentiments from the PTI animal sympathy set. I actually don’t remember which one. The paw is from that set too and the heart is from Tiny Treats: Valentine.

I Like you Thiiiiiiiiis Munch!

Isn’t this squirrel cute? I like that he isn’t too cartoony but somewhat realistic! And the sentiment is a hoot!

squirrel munch card
I used the new Max and Whiskers Paper from Basic Grey, I am not stuck on orange but it just suits cards with critters on them so perfectly! If you look closely, I carefully drew a stripe down the middle of some of the seeds to make them look like sunflower seeds. Squirrel’s favourites!

I used a sketch by Skipping Stones Designs. When I had made the card, I had just saved the sketch on my phone from someone’s blog but when I checked, the sketch was already closed. Bummer. Anyway, if you love this image, be sure to check out Doodle Pantry!

Clear Dollar Stamps Sneak Peak 2 – A Cup Full of Happiness

This is another cute kitty project featuring A Cup Full of Happiness. But I must admit, as much as I like my project, I am a little sad posting it. This is my last post as a CDS Sneak Preview Artist! My three-month. temporary summer position is coming to an end. {{SNIFF SNIFF}}.

OK, all together now, Awwww! Isn’t he cute? I use Max and Whiskers paper to  piece the cup and saucer, using a Copic marker to differentiate the saucer from the cup. This is the little calico kitty I coloured but didn’t use for my last post. He look much, much better in this cup and on this project.

Here is a close up of the colouring.

Did you realize you were looking at a 3-D project?  This is a sweet little kitty treat holder. I love having small goodies around when someone I know gets a new pet! The template for this is called a Boxy Bag or Bag in a Box, I can’t remember and I just came up with my own measurements, not looking at any directions so I don’t know exactly what it is called. I’m pretty sure that there are instructions at Splitcoast Stampers. These treats were only $2 or less at Wal-Mart but they sure look fancier!

I hope you loved this stamp set! Be sure to visit Clearly iStamp to view the set, other samples and get links to my team mates blogs! The set will be available July 1st at Clear Dollar Stamps.

Clear Dollar Stamps Sneak Peak-A Cup Full of Happiness

This is easily one of my favourite Clear Dollar Stamps sets yet! I love cats so much and this one is simply adorable!!

I decided to go a bit shabby with this one. The tea cup is pieced with DP and the saucer is coloured as is the kitty.

I started colouring another kitty in calico colours (black, white and orange) but the orange didn’t jive so well with the soft colours of the DP so I re-coloured her in this soft white and pale brown colour which is perfect! The next post uses the calico kitty so be sure to check him out too.

I hope you love this little kitty as much as I do! Be sure to visit Clearly iStamp to see the full set and get links to more samples of this and other July sneak peak sets! This set will be available July 1st at Clear Dollar Stamps!

Puppy Love Treat Cover for Whimsical Wednesdays

I decided to go for a 3-D project this week. I can’t wait to use it for the next friend who gets a new dog as a welcome home ‘card’. I love making cards but why not try something different now and then? I used an adorable image by our FABULOUS Sponsor this week, The Character Cafe, called Puppies and Kitten. Our inspiration for this week is…

puppy love front
I made my kitty grey too with green eyes though they are so small it is very hard to see them! This treat bag was so easy to make. Here are the overall measurements and scoring directions.

Start with a 4.25 x 11” piece of CS. Score at 3.5”, 4.5”, 5.5”, 9”. Fold the paper into a W with the remaining 2” folded down as the flap. You may want to cut it smaller, it depends on the width of the border punch you want to use and how much waste it creates.

puppy love back
You could put a piece of acetate in the oval hole but as I will be adding doggie cookies inside a zip top bag, I didn’t think it would really add anything. The edges are all sponged with Distress ink which helps the border stand out also.

Here are my Copic marker colours:

puppy love copics
I sure hope you will all play this week! Any project is welcome! Be sure to use keyword DDSC26 when uploading to an online gallery. Come back to add your DIRECT LINK to Mr Linky so we can all see your work and leave you comments. I can’t wait to see what you do with this week’s inspiration! Don’t forget, there is a $10 GC from The Character Cafe for one participant this month!

Loss of a Dog Sympathy Card

It is always so sad when a family looses a beloved pet. I’m so glad that several stamp manufacturers have acknowledged this.

empty doghouse sympathy
I  deliberately left the inside of the doghouse dark and kind of uneven. I don’t know about you, but it makes me look twice to see if there is a form of some sort in there. Like the way you look in your pet’s favourite places for them even after they are gone. Just because you were so used to doing it before.
